[Resolved] Obtain Count of Repeating Fields with Condition

I'm looking to return the number of instances of a repeating date field in a post where the date is on or before today. I came across this but it counts ALL instances.

$dates= sizeof(get_post_meta( $post_id, 'wpcf-custom-field', false));

I can do it using an SQL query in my function but wondered if there's a different/better way of doing it?

There is no way to get total count of repeating field instances. You need to use the PHP code as you shared.
