Hello, sorry for my bad english but i use google translate.

I recently purchased toolset, but was disappointed by the fact that compared to a plugin like ACF, which offers a number of very advanced fields, including the repeater field, the fields in the toolset are very limited.

In my specific case, I bought basically Toolset to develop a website based on some particular post type: one of these involved the insertion recipes in the fields created with Types .. but .. how do I create the ingredient list without a repeater field ? you say, you can create post type relational .. ok but I already tested this thing, and it works only for the backend ! The user has to enter the recipe from the frontend as it does? In ACF it was easy to do, in toolset ...? 🙁

Hi Marcello

Most of the Types custom fields can be repeating fields (with the exception of fields such as checkboxes and select dropdowns etc.)

So if you have a custom post type of recipe and you create a custom field group that is assigned to your recipe post type, you can add a single line text field for ingredients and specify that the field is a repeating field.

Whether adding recipes in the back end or on the front end via a CRED form the user will be able to add additional ingredient fields.

See this page for details: https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/repeating-fields/

Excuse me, my fault I did not explain well.
The list of ingredients is composed of 4 fields, quantity, unit of measure, ingredient name and notes, which must be able to be repeated as a single line.

However I understand that it is a problem of which you are already aware

Hi Marcello

The repeating Types fields are not like the ACF repeating group fields, that is correct.

And, yes, to achieve something similar you will need to set up post relationships with a parent post type of recipes and a child post type of ingredients, where you add the custom fields for quantity, unit of measure etc. to the child ingredient posts.

But as you are discovering yourself, this is really only set up to work in the back end (which, I think, is how you use repeater fields with ACF). For the front end you need to use CRED forms to create the child posts from your parent post, and you can make a workable solution but it is admittedly not a very smooth UX.

There will be changes to this with the overhaul of post relationships in the new version of Types, but I don't know yet what the UI will look like and what the workflow will be, and we are still some way away from it being ready.

I'm sorry, but considering that the documentation does not specify that it is a feature only available for backend would like to know what is the procedure for reimbursement. It unfortunately is lacking an essential feature for the project for which I had bought toolset.
