[Resolved] Email Notifications for comments made to generated Posts from CRED Post Forms

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem: I would like to trigger Forms Notifications whenever Comments are submitted using native WP commenting.

Solution: Forms will not hook into the native Comment system, so there's no easy way to trigger automatic email notifications for Comments. You may find the Message module useful.

I have a membership site built entirely with Toolset. (pretty proud of that)

A member can post a question. This is the Post. Other members get notified via a 3rd Party plugin and they login to provide answers using WordPress native commenting functionality. What I'm trying to do is when one of these members makes a comment on the forementioned post, the Post Author will receive an E-Mail notification that a comment was made with the contents of the comment embedded in the eMail. Another comment, another email with the comment sent to the Post Author.

I have a screenshot of how I have the E-mail Notifications setup in Toolset Post Forms (CRED). I just can't figure out which Toolset Field to use since I don't see one for WordPress comments to a Post.

Is there a way to do what I've described above with Toolset Post Forms

Hi, there's not a built-in way for Toolset Forms notifications to respond to a post's native WP comment submissions. In general, Forms automatic email notifications are triggered by events within that same Form. If your site visitors created Comments as posts using Toolset Forms, then you could respond to that Form's events and trigger a notification. However, it sounds like you want to use the native WordPress comments system, so Forms isn't integrated with those events. If you enable comment notifications, emails will be sent to the post author by the system automatically: https://en.support.wordpress.com/comment-notification-email/

Thank you Christian for this well thought out answer.

Do you have an example Toolset client or demo site that does what you describe of using posts instead of comments?

We had a blog post recently about our new messaging module for communication: https://toolset.com/2018/11/introducing-toolsets-communication-system-for-professional-listing-sites/
