I am trying to create a CRED form for entering new real estate listings in the property CPT.
When I try to preview the CRED form I created using the wizard, it complains "This page doesn't have a template layout"
When I try to CREATE a layout for the CRED form, it says "Do you really want to add a form for creating new posts in a template? Usually, it makes more sense to include forms that create new content in a page."
All I wanted was a way to preview the form while working on it.
Do I need a separate layout or not?
The distinctions toolset makes between pages, layouts, forms and loops within forms seems ambiguous.

Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

Well - I need more information here, from where you are trying to preview your form from edit CRED form page?

Could you please share exact step information where I can see above messages, few screenshots will be helpful to understand your issue.

I finally stumbled through a series of steps that got me what I wanted. It still seems like a very convoluted path to what should be straight forward series of steps.
