[Resolved] Content Layouts and widgets

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
Widgets can be added to Template Layouts, but not to Content Layouts, i.e. when you design an individual page or post with Layouts.

Solution:
A Content Layout is pre-rendered so it can't render widgets properly.

You can, instead, add widgets to a Template Layout that you assign to a single page, rather than design that page with a Content Template.

I am trying to use widgets in Content layouts (in single pages). Why is disabled possibility to place widget cells in Content layouts. Widgets are available and working well under Layouts for templates. Thanks.

Hi there

I asked the developers who said "a Content Layout is pre-rendered so it can't render widgets properly".

That doesn't help you very much.

However, as an alternative to using a Content Layout for a particular page, you can create a Template Layout and assign it to that individual page instead, and you can insert widgets in your Template Layout.

So use an assigned Template Layout instead of a Content Layout for the page in question.

Thanks. What is prefered way to use Layouts: Content Layouts vs. Template Layouts. I have found this mention here: https://toolset.com/2016/09/toolset-page-builders-now-coming-soon/
"Template layout – these are the layouts that you have now. We’re going to phase out layouts assigned to single pages (it’s still going to work, but we don’t recommend using it)."
There will be both ways of using Layouts in future versions of Toolset? Thanks.

They still work and I'm not sure there is an active ticket to disable it, but even if that were to happen it might mean removing the UI to enable it on new sites, any change will be backwards compatible and won't break existing sites.

In any case, that's the only way you can use widgets in a Layout for a single page.
