Allowing user roles to upload media does not allow them to add media to Blocks or Featured Images if Gutenberg is active

Resolved

Reported for: Toolset Access 2.7

Resolved in: 2.7.5

Symptoms

Toolset Access plugin offers you to control who can do what with your site’s Media content (amongst other post types).

When a user with a role lower than Author is given full rights to manipulate Media (and posts), they still cannot upload Featured Images or Media inside Blocks, when Gutenberg is active. They are presented with error messages similar to the following:

  • Given your current role, you can only link an image, you cannot upload.
  • To edit the featured image, you need permission to upload media.

Additionally, you might see JavaScript errors logged in the console when editing a Post as a role below Author, as explained above.

Workaround

As a workaround, you can disable Gutenberg (Block Editor) for this post type. You won’t be able to use Block Editor but you will be able to add Media and Featured images.

Alternatively, you can download this file and extract it.
Then, upload it to your WordPress Plugins FTP Folder /plugins/types-access/application/controllers, replacing the existing one.
